Continental winter tyre leads ADAC, ÖAMTC and TCS tests

Continental WinterContact TS 870 was ranked first in all dimensions tested in the winter tyre tests published at the end of September by the major motoring clubs in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Most of the praise has been for its balance, efficiency, and wear and tear.

The Touring Club Switzerland (TCS) rated the tyre “highly recommended” in both dimensions, while the German ADAC and the Austrian ÖAMTC gave them ratings of 2.1 (215/60 R16) and 2.2 (185/65 R 15) respectively. TCS particularly praised the balance. The WinterContact TS 870 has performed very convincingly on dry and wet roads, while also proving its performance on snow and ice, is energy efficient and low-wear. The ADAC and ÖAMTC came up with similar results, emphasising safety in winter conditions and balance on all surfaces.

The annual tests carried out by the three moto clubs are considered the benchmark for the current winter tyre sales programme. This year, these clubs tested a total of 33 tyre models in the 185/65 R 15 tyre size popular for smaller cars, and in the 215/60 R 16 tyre size preferred by owners of SUVs and compact cars. WinterContact TS 870 has already proved its worth in a test by the UK specialist Auto Express magazine: "Continental is synonymous with safety in summer and winter. First place in the tests of the leading motoring clubs confirms our slogan of premium tyres and is a great tribute to our development team for all their efforts," Andreas Schlenke, tyre developer at Continental, told .

WinterContact TS 870 has been completely redesigned by Continental experts. New tread design, construction and rubber compound have been developed. Compared to its predecessor, the new WinterContact TS 870 can therefore offer three per cent 3% shorter braking distances on ice and 5% better handling on snow. Also, the tyre can cover up to 10% more kilometres and has improved grip on snow. Find more detailed information on this tyre HERE
