"Slovenian market is very well developed with additional equipment for transporting additional loads. We Slovenians are in all kinds of sports and we don't all have combi vans to transport our equipment and sporting goods. That's why we need additional carriers so we can turn our personal vehicle into a mobile platform and transport our bikes, skis, SUP boards, canoes and other luggage to our favourite destination," says Bojan Jerman, Accessories Programme Manager. He adds that consumers are very demanding and uncompromising when it comes to safety and usability. "All products are subject to rigorous testing. Their innovation gives us a pleasant user experience."
What can consumers equip themselves with at Bartog?
For the most preferred product groups, Bojan lists the following:
• Roof racks: roof racks turn our unusable roof into a space where various additional supports can be attached. We stock racks for vehicles with conventional roof sleds, vehicles with integrated roof sleds and vehicles with nothing on the roof – a "flat" roof. In this segment, Menabo keeps an eye on the new vehicle market and, thanks to our engineers, we have racks in stock for the latest vehicles.
• Roof boxes: Slovenians also travel a lot in their own cars to neighbouring countries. A roof box is an easy, affordable compromise that allows us to carry skis, extra bags or deckchairs. We stock cases in different sizes, colours, with single-sided and double-sided opening, and with different clamping systems for roof racks.
• Ski racks: We always have both magnetic and classic ski racks in stock. Magnetic ones are more suitable for people who quickly decide to make a few turns on the white slopes, because they are easy and quick to assemble. Classic ski racks are attached to the roof racks using T-bolts or U-bolts. The latest YELO ski rack for 6 pairs of skis or 4 snowboards is very suitable for SUVs, as you don't have to "climb" on the vehicle to place your skis in the rack, thanks to a special telescopic mechanism.
• Kayak and SUP racks: People who are active on a daily basis like to seek active relaxation in nature. The sea, lakes and rivers are all around us and offer a wonderful active escape into nature.
• Bike racks: More than 300 bike racks are in stock at any given time for transporting bikes on the roof, on the tailgate, on the towbar, on the platform of PICK UPs or inside the combi vans.
Which group of products is the most technically sophisticated?
"All the products are technically advanced," Jerman points out, adding: "I would particularly like to highlight the bike racks, where we have many new and even better models. It is much easier for the customer to install and use them. There have been major developments in this area, and this is very important for us. The technical solutions allow e-bikes to be transported on a towbar, and the loading ramp makes it easy to move a relatively heavy bike from the ground to the bike rack. I must also point out that Menabo cares for customers who do not need a rack every weekend, but only once or twice a year. In addition to the latest and the most sophisticated ones, we also have simpler and therefore very affordable carriers in our product range. We strive to offer solutions, and the customer decides according to their expectations and requirements."
Is it true or does it only seem that more and more bikes are being transported on towbars?
"It's true. New cars are taller and have a higher roof, which is a problem for people of normal height. The towbar solution is more expensive, but offers a much higher level of comfort. The quick-attach rack is attached to the towing hook and the bikes are loaded at waist height and at the same level as the parked vehicle. They allow us to transport up to two E-bikes. The tilt of the rack allows access to the luggage compartment. And to round off the whole range, we can arrange storage of the rack at home. This gives us a very functional wall rack where the carrier can safely wait for you until the next time you use it."
