PRESTIGIOUS AWARDS FOR CONTINENTAL SPORTCONTACT 7
Performance and aesthetics in one tyre: The Continental SportContact 7 won two prestigious design awards this spring: Red Dot in iF DESIGN AWARD. The international jury was impressed by the form, function and innovative industrial design.
Continental's SportContact 7 is a proof that tyres can also deliver outstanding performance in terms of form, function and design.
A new sports tyre from Hannover has won two of the most prestigious international design awards – the Red Dot Prize: Product Design in iF DESIGN AWARD. "We are delighted that our flagship sports horse has not only impressed tyre fans with its performance, but that our work has also been recognised by designers from around the world with these awards," says Enno Straten, Head of Strategy, Analytics and Replacement Tyre Marketing EMEA at Continental.
The designers pursued three main objectives in the development process:
1. Develop a credible "next generation" for the long line of successful SportContact tyres.
2. The innovations they have developed need to be visible and recognisable in the best possible way.
3. The design style had to be in line with that of modern sports cars.
Red Dot Award for Product Design
In the "search for good design and innovation", the 48 international members of the Red Dot 2022 jury have expertly, individually and exhaustively reviewed every product from 60 countries that has been nominated for a Red Dot Award: Product Design. Only the products that impressed the experts with their outstanding design quality – including the Continental SportContact 7 – have won awards. The jury believes that the award-winning companies have set new standards in the design industry with their products. Dr Peter Zec, the initiator and CEO of Red Dot, commented on the 2022 competition: "This year, I was particularly struck by the strong creativity evidenced in the winning products. The fact that there are still models that surprise in form and function is truly impressive and commendable."
Among the nearly 11,000 votes received, the SportContact 7 prevailed.
The ultra-performance sports tyre has also won this year's iF DESIGN AWARD in the "Product" discipline in the vehicle category, one of the world's most prestigious design awards. The iF DESIGN AWARD is awarded once a year by the world's oldest independent design institution, iF International Forum Design GmbH. The SportContact 7 impressed the 132-member independent international jury of experts with its innovative design and function. They had a very challenging task, as they received almost 11,000 proposals from 57 countries for evaluation.
